In 2007 the Shelby County Prosecutor along with Sheriff Mike Bowlby and Shelbyville Chief of Police Bill Elliot announced the creation of the Shelby County and Shelbyville Fatal Alcohol Crash Teams (F.A.C.T.). The F.A.C.T. teams each consist of specially trained members of the Sheriff’s Department, the Shelbyville Police Department and the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Fatal Crash Teams respond to all fatal and potentially fatal traffic crashes in Shelby County.

The team members are trained to treat these particular types of vehicle crashes as crime scenes and to investigate each as a potential homicide.


By using a fatal crash team concept these types of investigations will receive the benefit of the resources that the specialized team members bring to the scene. Each team consists of the following specialists:
